22-Point Restoration

All typewriters undergo a complete 22-point restoration service:

  • Renew case (clean exterior, attach and seal any loose fabric, renew case hardware).

  • Chemical clean internals: escapement, type bars, key linkages, escapement rack, plus all typing engine components.

  • Clean and lube lower segment with synthetic lubricant.

  • Lightly lube all pivot points.

  • Remove Wite-Out residue where present (yuck).

  • Clean and polish paint surfaces.

  • Chemical clean platen.

  • Clean and adjust paper feed rollers.

  • Clean and polish key caps.

  • Align keycap legends.

  • Chemical clean type slugs.

  • Replace frame chassis washers (Olympias).

  • Clean and lube carriage rails.

  • Check on-feet adjustment (vertical alignment).

  • Clean and lube margin sliders.

  • Clean and adjust shift keys and shift lock linkages.

  • Clean and adjust carriage components: line spacer, carriage release and lock.

  • Clean and adjust paper bail and paper release cam.

  • Clean and adjust ribbon advance and reverse gears.

  • Polish brightwork.

  • Install new ribbon.

  • Final test type sample to check for proper operation and action.
